Have you ever acted like a tourist in your own community? Or at least not like a local? Sometimes there are some amazing places right in your own backyard! Places that you may have overlooked or even forgotten about, because they have always been there.
For many years, this was how Ledges State Park was for me. I knew it was there, and even had been out there a couple times. But for the most part, I forgot about it. I had lived less than 10 miles away for over 6 years before I started going there regularly!
Even now I don’t get out there as much as I would like to, but I am really trying to change that. One of my favorite ways to utilize the trails and take in the beauty of the part is to go for a run through the park. Well, more of a run and hike, since my endurance and fitness levels aren’t quite up to that yet 🙂 But really, how much more beautiful of a place to run can you get?
I don’t think it would be an exaggeration to say that this is one of my favorite places to be. It just brings a feeling of peace to me every time I’m out here. In fact, this park was, in part, the inspiration for the title of this blog, and the location that the image in the header was taken! That location is probably my favorite in the entire park!
I also took the opportunity to play with my camera on my last visit. I’ve been really trying to get a handle on the macro setting and had a great time photographing some of the flowers and a butterfly!
I saw a lot of butterflies that day, but this was the only one I could catch a picture of!
There are so many things to do at a park like this. I haven’t done this one much lately, what with the rain and crazy high humidity, but taking the dogs out for a hike with Boyfriend is always a great time 🙂 I also took the opportunity to try out some outdoor yoga after my run last time and loved it!
Since this isn’t a business I’m reviewing, there are no costs for me to list (unless you want to go camping, which I’ve never done there). Instead, just a recommendation: check out your state parks! I can’t believe it took me so many years to spend some quality time in this one and I am hoping to check out a few more nearby in the next year.
What about you? I would love to hear what your experiences are! Any favorite places or parks you love, or ones you want to check out?
