DIY coffee rack

We all love to make our homes our own. To display the things that we love and create spaces that welcome us. That can be done a lot of different ways…thrift store shopping, antiquing, DIY, just regular shopping and more! And I would guess many of us like to do a mix of all of those. I know I do! For this project I decided to go the DIY route 🙂 It’s no secret that I love DIY decor. What you may not know about me is that I absolutely LOVE coffee! So when I realized I could make a space that combined those loves, I was all for it!
Our kitchen is one of the last rooms in the house that hasn’t really been remodeled. A few changes here and there, most of which were caused by changes in another room, but not an actual remodel. And well…my kitchen is not the prettiest kitchen ever! It’s stuck sometime from the 60s or 70s, with some of the weirdest wood paneling I have ever seen, no windows and dark cabinets. But we have made a few positive changes to it so far and one of them (recessing the refrigerator) opened up a space that I could play with!
DIY Coffee Rack
Super easy to make and gorgeous to look at, this DIY coffee rack is one of my favorite DIYs so far!

I had seen all of the nifty coffee bars, corners and racks on Pinterest and decided to make something like that for our kitchen. Draz doesn’t really drink coffee, so this is a space that is solely made to please me 🙂 The kitchen has a long way to go, but I now have one space in it that makes me smile every time I look at it! Plus it’s so functional!
One of the things I liked the most about making this is that it allowed me to slowly start improving on my building skills. One of the things on my 101 Things list is to build a piece of wood furniture. While this isn’t anywhere close to that, at least I’m starting to improve! In the past, I would have just asked my dad to build it for me. This time, I did it myself…with his help 🙂 I did get the supplies and cut and stain the boards myself. I even tried to put it together myself! That didn’t go so well. The wood started splitting when I tried to put it together, so I set everything aside and asked him to help me the next time he came out.

We actually used 3 separate drills, rather than switching bits. But you could do this just as well with one drill!
He did start things off and show me what to do, but I did put it together myself! I know it’s not much, but I’m super-proud of myself for finishing this project! And I think it turned out very pretty! 🙂

Dad did the first few so I could get comfortable with what to do.

Then he had me take over! We used the first drill to make a hole for the screw.

Then the second drill was used to widen the top of the hole, so the screw wouldn’t split the wood like it did when I tried to do it on my own!

I did forget to get pictures of screwing in the hooks, but I did most of those one my own as well! I know it’s a small start, but I’m pretty proud of making this almost all by myself!

The end result! I know the kitchen isn’t finished yet, but I think this adds a pretty spot in all of it!
Have you tried anything like this? Are you a beginner with wood building like me, or way more advanced? I would love to hear about your experiences and your own builds, so please leave a comment below!
