5 great podcasts for creatives

Being an artist can be very isolating. Long hours in your studio creating can be wonderful, but also lonely. But podcasts can help with that! They can help you to feel connected with other artists, gain some insight and maybe even some inspiration!

Now, you might remember that I have a serious love of podcasts. I’ve talked about it a couple times (here and here), but today I want to focus solely on podcasts that I feel are helpful to creatives. Creativity in all its forms, it’s ups and it’s downs and how we gain inspiration has been on my mind a lot lately. I plan to talk more on this topic soon, but I thought it would be fun to start off with this!

Enjoy!

Looking for some inspiration, tips or just something to listen to when you are working in your studio? I have just the thing for you! Check out this list of great podcasts for any artist!

Artists Helping Artists – One of the first art-related podcasts I found. Ran by Leslie Saeta with a variety of guest co-hosts, this podcasts touches on so many topics that are important to artists! While they are focused on painting, I have found that they are helpful, informative and inspiring, even as a non-painter!

Magic Lessons – This podcast is by Elizabeth Gilbert and is her continuation of the work she started in her book “Big Magic” Each episode she talks with a guest who is struggling in their creative life and gives advice and “homework.” The second portion of the episode is her consulting with another creative professional about the guest and their struggles. This podcast lifts me up, makes me laugh and inspires me each time I listen to it!

The Potters Cast – As you might have guessed, this one is focused on pottery and potters. Now, as a non-potter (at least, not since high school) I can say that I have gotten SO MUCH out of this podcast! Paul Blais does a wonderful job interviewing his guests and there are so many great tips and thought-provoking conversations.

On Being – This podcast is not made for artists, but is one of the most inspiring podcasts I have ever listened to! Krista Tippett interviews the most amazing people and has the most amazing conversations with them. I can’t even begin to say how many times I have come away from listening to an episode with new ideas and new energy as an artist.

TED Radio Hour – Another podcasts not made for artists! But there is so much to learn from about yourself as an artist, creativity, productivity and more in this podcast.
