BlogFest & IdeaWorld: My Thoughts

Pretty short post today, but one I couldn’t wait to share with you! I actually wrote this on the plane on my way home yesterday.
blogfest-ideaworld-book
I sit here on the plane, on my first leg of the journey home after 8 incredible days in Las Vegas. I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want to share with you. I wrote a couple days ago about the first half of the conference and some of the highlights.
But that’s not really what I want to share with you. Yes, the presentations and workshops were amazing. Yes, the Expo was full of neat items and I tried out some really fun workouts. And I do want to share those with you! But that isn’t what I really got from this conference.
fitness-conference-workshop
I got inspired. I got revitalized. But most of all, I was opened up to how I have been holding myself back – fear. Fear of being seen as less than knowledgeable. Fear of trying to build what is in my head for all of you and failing. And fear of sharing myself, my true self, and it not being seen as good enough.
That’s not to say that I’m not honest with what I share with you on here and social media. But I tend to hold myself back from the sillier side of things. I don’t always share things the way I want to, for fear of how it will be seen.
But this conference opened up so much for me. It reminded me that we don’t connect to people because we see them as the most serious on knowledgeable…we connect because they are real! They speak to us and we feel it.
So I’m going to strive to share more, be more vulnerable. Share things the way I want to! Let you see all sides of me, not just the more reserved parts. And I’m going to strive to build what is in my head.
Do I know that it’s all going to work? No, not at all. But it matters to me to share what I think is truly important, what I think will make a difference! So expect to see some changes on here and on social media. I think you are really going to like them!

BlogFest & IdeaWorld – The Experience

I’ve been thinking for the past few days about what I wanted to say, how I wanted to sum up my experience at my first IdeaWorld and BlogFest. How to adequately share with you the overwhelming joy and passion that these 5 days brought me…. What I can say is that I’m more sure now than I ever have been that not only am I going to start sharing my love of fitness more here on the blog, I’m definitely going to be pursuing it more off-line as well.

The Pre-Conference

The 5 days of craziness started with an all day, pre-conference certification training on Tabata! I am super excited for that to be my first certification and can’t wait to start putting all of the the wonderful things Mindy Mylrea taught us to use. The experiences she shared with us about her life in fitness so far, her thoughts on overall wellness and living a healthy lifestyle…well, let’s just say she had a lot of knowledge to impart on all of us! I’m so thankful to have been trained by her. The highlight of my day came at the end though, when she gave me 1 of the 2 IdeaWorld Inspiration medals she handed out to our class, for my “intelligent contributions”. I won’t lie, I may have gotten a little teary-eyed.

What a way to start off the conference, right?!

Day 1

The next day (the official Day 1) started bright and early, back with Mindy for a fantastic workout, then on to BlogFest! I will admit, I was a little nervous and intimidated to be in a room with a bunch of awesome health and fitness bloggers! Everyone was super friendly and welcoming though. Not only that, but our sponsors for the event seriously spoiled us. All of the speakers we had for Day 1 had some great knowledge to impart and I can’t wait to apply some of it here on the blog.

IdeaWorld-2017

While everything was amazing, the part of Day 1 that really hit me was the Opening Ceremonies. Just the massive amount of driven people, all passionate about sharing their love of fitness, all in one room….to say it was overwhelming and moving is an understatement. The various awards that were given out, the keynote, the talk of how they have built this conference for the past 35 years (!!!), all of it was just so inspiring. It really reminded me of why I started this blog and started teaching in the first place. Because I am passionate about living a healthy lifestyle! And being surrounded by so many excited and like-minded people was just so revitalizing!

Day 2

Day 2 started bright and early yet again, with another great workout (are you sensing a theme yet? :-P) We then moved on to a networking breakfast so we could get to know some of our fellow bloggers! After that, it was a flurry of presenters and amazing information. I loved getting know more about working with brands, which was a lot of the focus of the talks that day. And I mean, I love the idea of being able to share more of the brands I love with you!!

But the highlight of Day 2 definitely came from Todd Durkin’s Keynote presentation. I had already heard him talk during the Opening Ceremonies when he was awarded the Jack LaLane Award and he nearly had me in tears a few times then. Hearing him talk in that small room to all of us bloggers, with such passion and energy…well, I don’t even think I can put words to it. I realize that I am using the word “passion” a lot in this post, but I can’t stress it enough…everyone there was just so passionate about sharing their knowledge and their love of fitness! Todd Durkin’s speech will always stay with me, as possibly the most impactful part of the whole conference for me.

I still don’t know what all to say about all the wonderful people I met this week. The ladies from SweatPink, all of the great bloggers who attended and were so friendly and welcoming, even the sponsors who were so happy to share their awesome product and chat! I know I’m going to have more to share with you in the coming days, both about the experience as a whole and about the last 2 days of the conference! I’m so thankful to have had this experience, one I hope to be the first of many.

I do know one thing – this is definitely not going to be my last time attending BlogFest and IdeaWorld!!

I’m back!!

Hey guys! Wow, it’s been a while! I just want to start off with this: I did not plan on this break. This nearly month-long absence was not intentional. But it has has some interesting side-effects! I’m getting ahead of myself….

If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen that I got pretty sick a few weeks ago. I’m not going to get into details, cause they aren’t fun at all, but I was unable to pretty much do anything for over a week. Following that first week, it took another week or so before I was getting close to back to normal. At that point, I was super excited! I could finally start blogging again! I went to go get on my computer…..and was informed that my hard drive was failing 🙁

So this led into another week and a half waiting for my computer to come back from HP. The good news: I have a new hard drive! Gotta love warranties. The bad news: I lost most of my photos…I will do better about backing things up in the future.

And this is how we end up with a month-long silence here on Nymph in the Woods.

Now on to the side-effects of my absence!

  1. I had been dealing with a creative block when it came to the blog. A month of no blogging and I have some great new ideas and I can’t wait to get writing!
  2. I had been feeling pretty discouraged about the blog, mostly about myself, my expectations and where I wasn’t reaching them. But I missed blogging so much during this month….Which made me remember that even if I’m not where I want to be yet, I love what I’m doing!
  3. You guys didn’t disappear! Ok, this is not a side-effect, but it does make me feel better. Beforehand if I missed one post I was stressing out. Now, I’m not going to get into the habit of missing posts or anything. But now I missed a month and everything and everyone is still here.

Thank you guys for being patient with me! It’s going to take a few days to get the computer set back up the way I need it and get some other things in order, but I will be back to posting as normal next week!

How to Deal With Being Overwhemed by A Fresh Start on a Budget – This is a great post! We all get overwhelmed…I know I do. And when you feel that way it can be hard to get anything done, much less everything! I know I can just kinda freeze up. This has some great tips for getting past the overwhelmed feeling and moving forward, plus making sure to take time for self-care. And we all know how important I think self-care is!

Is Wealth Just About Changing Your Mindset by Our Freaking Budget – I love this! And past a certain point, like being unsure if you can afford groceries or bills, I would have to say they are right! Mindset makes such a huge difference!

21 Books I Loved, 5 I Liked and 3 I Wouldn’t Recommend by Design Darling – Great list! I can’t wait to check out some of these! I have my own “new book goal” on my own 101 Things in 1001 Days list and this will help me get there! Plus a few that she read are ones I read for my list too! (Also, this gives me a post idea….maybe do my own book list halfway through or something?)

Things I Know for Sure at 28: Outstanding People, the Comparison Trap and Standards by Eat, Spin, Run, Repeat – I love this! It sounds a lot like the things I learned around that time! It amazes me just how much we learned in our late 20s….makes me excited to see what we learn in our 30s!

Health and Fitness

Trying New Fitness Adventures by Gettin’ My Healthy On – Yes! I love trying new things and having been focusing a lot on getting outside of my comfort zone lately. I actually decided just this week that I am FINALLY getting a gym membership and I can’t wait to attend some fitness classes! Plus I have a few other things I want to try too!

Hair and Beauty

Waterfall Braid Tutorial + the Fix for Dry, Damaged Hair by Hair Romance – Yet again another great post from Christina! The waterfall braid is one I love but haven’t tried yet. (I mostly stick to my Dutch and Fishtail Braids) I can’t wait to try after this video! And my curly hair gets dried out so easily, so I will definitely be trying some new products she suggests to see if I can’t get it back to health!

Blogging and Business

How to Design Blog Post Graphics That Convert (With Before + After Examples!) by Melyssa Griffin – Wonderful post! This is something I struggle with, so I am definitely going to be trying out her tips!

Happy Friday! I hope you are all having a wonderful week. Things have been a little off here, but are getting back on track now. I had a pretty bad headache for a few days, so I haven’t been working out much this week or getting as much done as I would like. But my head is doing better and I’m getting back to normal productivity! No workout today, but hopefully tomorrow that will be back on track too!

Anyways, I found some links I love this week for your weekend reading pleasure! Enjoy!Read More

sunday meal prep 7/17/16

Happy Sunday all! I hope you are all having a lovely weekend! This week’s meal prep is mostly dishes you may have seen before, but there is one new recipe in the mix too! I had a lot going on last weekend, so I knew when I planned this menu that I didn’t want it to take too long. The end result: some recipes that were pretty quick to come together and worked well cooking at the same time. This meal prep ended up taking about 3.5 hours of active cooking time, but only about half of that was main dishes. The rest was  assembling our breakfast burritos, salads and snacks!

Enjoy!

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic week! 🙂

In case you missed them, here are some awesome posts that went out this week!

To start off, I’m doing things a little different this week. There are two posts that I think you should really read. The #BlackLivesMatter movement, the recent murders of black men by police, the murders of police officers themselves; they all need to be thought about. This needs to be discussed. I have a lot of great articles for you this week, but I think these two are the most important. Please read them. Think about these matters and discuss them with others. The violence and hate needs to end.

What You Should Know About St. Paul Right Now by Pinch of Yum – The last few weeks our news and media outlets have been filled with grief, confusion, anger and fear, just to name a few emotions. The murders of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, and the 5 police officers in Dallas has had many of us rightfully upset. This post talks about being at the intersection where Philandro was killed and the people that are gathering there. Most importantly, this post talks about the LOVE and PEACE that is being displayed and shared at that intersection. We should be upset by these deaths. That does not mean that we should hate. I love that this truth is being shared there, and that Lindsay has shared it with us.

Use Your White Privilege to End Your White Privilege by Uncustomary – Yes. Just Yes. Everything about this. White privilege exists. I am a white woman who grew up middle-class in a mostly white town. I went to a mostly white school (excluding one year in high school). I don’t know that I would have understood the reality of white privilege when I was younger. That being said, I understand it now. Let’s put an end to white privilege.Read More
