January in Review, February Goals

Wow, what a start to the new year!! January was full of ups and downs, but I’m feeling pretty positive about what is to come! I promise that this coming week we will be back to normal here on the blog, with meal prep posts and everything.

January Review

Highlights:

vegetable-food-prep-process

  • I did a full meal prep photo session! I can’t wait to show you all what I have planned for a lot of the pictures. They turned out great.
  • My jewelry shop is now set up to sell at 5 upcoming markets! It’s just a start, but a great one!
  • I launched a new series on here that I am super excited about. Sharing Sabrina’s story with you was wonderful and I think you are going to love the ones that are coming up!

Low Points:

  • I got sick with the flu and two ear infections for around half of the month. Needless to say, this made a lot of things I had planned pretty difficult. I’m getting better now, but my regular routine is still really off and I’m having a hard time getting back into things.
  • I strive to be honest on here, so I will share this with you all….I’ve been having a hard time this month with feeling pretty down about my jewelry business and the blog. I love them both, but neither are where I would like them to be. I’m not quitting, not by any means! But it’s been a rough month. Some of that is probably from being sick, but regardless, I’m having a difficult time feeling upbeat about my work lately.

January Goals:

Personal

  1. Spend a day taking down old decorations and putting up new. Put on some music and make it a fun and relaxing day!
  2. Have one “date day” with Draz
  3. Have one day where I spend at least 3 hours on self-care
  4. Go to yoga class once a week

I really did none of these, although up to getting sick I was doing great with the yoga class. And I suppose I spent a lot of time on self-care, but it wasn’t really by choice, so I don’t think that counts.

Blog

  1. Shoot new photos for a planned meal prep project
  2. Shoot photos for an upcoming fitness project

The photos for the meal prep project are done! The fitness shoot ones…nope. These aren’t even set yet, though I am hoping to do them this month.

Business

nymph-in-the-woods-jewelry

  1. Contact 2 bloggers about possible collaborations
  2. Make 10 new pieces of jewelry – This one is only if physically possible. My fingers are still healing from some lingering symptoms from when I was sick back in September.

I’m going to call this one a win! I did make 7 new pieces of jewelry and contacted 4 bloggers. 7 isn’t 10, but considering I was sick half of the month, I say it counts!

Overall, January didn’t go how I hoped it would, but all things considered, it didn’t go to bad. I have high hopes for February though! I have a lot of exciting events coming up this month, so I think it’s going to be great! Due to all of the stuff going on this month, I’m going to try to be a little more reserved in how many goals I set.

February Goals:

Personal

  1. Yoga once a week! This was the goal that I was the most disappointed about not being able to do last month, so that is being carried over.

Blog

  1. Contact 2-3 people about the big project I have in mind about design and implementation

Business

  1. Finish up 10+ new pieces before market on the 10th
  2. Get studio cleaned out for remodel

That’s it for this month! Hopefully this month goes better, with no horrible flu or anything!

How did January go for you? What are some of your goals for February? I would love to hear about them!

january goals

Hey everyone! With the new year and all the new projects I am working towards, I thought it would be the perfect time to bring back an old blog series: My monthly goals! Annual goals are great, but you don’t achieve them without setting smaller goals to work on throughout the year. And to do that, I’m going to take that first step and share them all with you each month. In future months, I will also share with you how I did on my goals for the previous month, both the successes and the failures!

New year and a new focus! I can't wait to get started with my January goals!

January Goals

April in Review and My Plans for the Future of the Blog

Hey everyone! Are you loving that May is finally here!? I know I am. The weather seems to be finally warming up and staying warmed up…though I could do without all this rain! I think May is going to be a pretty awesome month. 🙂 Especially because Draz and I are taking a vacation this month for our 2 year anniversary! We aren’t actually planning to go anywhere this year, but taking the time off of work will be wonderful. We both have side-project stuff to work on, but we will be spending plenty of quality time together as well and I can’t wait! Ok….before I start rambling too much….on to my April review!

April Goals:
2-3 resistance workouts and 3-4 LISS workouts done each week – LISS yes, resistance no. My back is still acting up a lot, so I’ve been doing smaller workouts where I can and trying to keep up my physical therapy. I really have been itching to workout, but I’m trying to be careful and not injure myself more.

Spend at least 1 hour a week outside, without technology – nope. not at all. Part of it has been the weather (cold and rain anyone?) and part has been my schedule. I am hoping to get outside more in the coming month!

Spend time each day improving my social media – I think I did this for the most part. I’ve been doing research and trying a few new things, so we will see how much of a different those things make!

April Overall:
April was a great month overall! I didn’t make the progress in some areas that I would have liked to, but that’s ok. I have made a lot of progress in other areas and am really enjoying life right now! The realization that I was pushing myself too hard and working too much was a big one…It’s amazing how much of a difference just taking a little bit of ‘me’ time has made!

My Plans for the Future:

Some Immediate Changes:
As I mentioned in last Wednesday’s post, I have decided to cut down to 3 posts a week – Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. This is most likely going to be a temporary change as I get some routines in place and get my Etsy store launched. During this change, I am going to cut a couple of monthly series posts. This is so the posts you are getting from me are quality and on topics I am excited about (and I hope you are too)! So I’m thinking the Goals and Fitness Updates are going to be cut for now.

If you like these and want me to keep them, be sure to let me know in the comments!

Further in the Future:
I’ve been thinking a lot lately on the true focus of this blog and I hope to fully bring the posts that I put out into alignment with that focus in the near future! I don’t think that this will bring a huge change…more of a clearer feel to the blog as a whole and to how I think I can help, you, my readers, improve their lives! I’m not quite ready to share this full vision yet, but I do think you will love it!

March in Review, Goals for April

Hey everyone! Can you believe March is over already? I don’t know why, but it feels like March has just flown by! Ours was pretty good overall, and I have been feeling extra-motivated to work on my jewelry and blog lately. This has helped me create a lot of great content and art….but sadly it has not helped me in achieving my set goals for this month.

But before we get to that….my favorite picture of the month! I’m sure you are getting tired of this one, and I can understand that. But it’s just so pretty! I am surprised by how much I love how this grapevine wreath turned out. It still makes me smile every time I walk up to our door!

grapevine-and-tulip-wreath-hung-on-front-door

Ok, now that I’ve gone on again about how much I love my new wreath 🙂 On to how my goals for March went!

March Goals

  1. Keep working towards establishing that morning routine!
  2. Add yoga into routine at least 3 days a week.
  3. Add guided meditation to routine at least 3 days a week.

I started off with 3 goals for the month and achieved none of them. I did add some yoga and mediation in to the end of my day, but not nearly as frequently as I would have liked. It did really help me relax on the days I did do it though, so I am still going to try to add that in more frequently.

Now on to the other goal. Shifting my schedule to going to bed earlier and waking up an hour and a half earlier. If you have been following this blog for a while, you know that this is something I really would like to happen. And something that I struggle with A LOT. This month was no different. Actually it was worse than some previous attempts. I was so focused on the projects that I worked on when I got home that I rarely went to bed before 12. Now, I don’t know about you all, but I need my sleep. I value my sleep. I don’t function well on 6 hours of sleep at all. So getting up earlier was rough. It basically consisted of my alarms (yes, alarms) going off at 6:20 and 6:25, me hitting snooze multiple times, giving up and then setting alarms to get up at the normal time. So yeah….I maybe got up earlier 3-4 times for the entirety of March. FAIL.

For a while, I was dreading this post. I was so disappointed in myself for not hitting any of my goals, for not having the strength of will to follow through with what I said I wanted. And yeah, I could have just skipped this post this month. But I strive for transparency on here. I want you all to see me as I am, not as an idealized version of myself or just who I want to be.

But as I got closer to the end of the month and really looked at what I accomplished, my views shifted a bit. I am still disappointed that I didn’t hit my goals for this month. But I’m also really proud of what I got done. I’m working towards some major events, like starting my online business, and working on some improvements to the blog that took up a lot of time and energy as well. And I got a lot done in those areas! And while I didn’t get up early and get every workout in, or add in the yoga and meditation in any sort of consistent way, I didn’t completely fall off track fitness-wise either. I still ate healthy and I still did some workouts in. I may not have progressed much on my fitness journey, but I didn’t backslide either!

I guess what I’m trying to say is, I hope you all give yourself some understanding and appreciation when you have months that don’t work out the way you hoped, goal-wise or otherwise. This is something I have struggled with a lot over the years, and still do. But I am trying to look at all the wins I had this month, instead of focusing on the few things that didn’t get accomplished. And that viewpoint allows me to end this month on a high note instead of feeling bad about myself!

Keeping that in mind, and what I have coming up in April, here are my April goals! I think this month I am going to try to keep pushing myself, but also keep in mind where my priorities are right now and keep my goals in line with those. And as always, planning everything out is key for me!

April Goals:

  1. Get in 2-3 resistance workouts and 3-4 LISS workouts each week, no matter what time I get up – I am still going to try to shift to an earlier schedule, but I need to have my focus on my fitness, not on what time I wake up. This was a problem last month, which lead to me only getting a few resistance workouts in.
  2. Spend at least 1 hour a week outside, without any technology – I know 1 hour doesn’t seem like a lot, but since I’ve basically been glued to work of some sort (when not at my “regular” job) pretty much the entire time I’m awake the last few weeks, I think this is a reasonable goal 🙂 Now that the weather is getting nicer again, maybe a few hikes are in order!
  3. Spend time each day working on the quality of my social media for the blog – This honestly feels a little silly for me to put as a goal. But social media is an important aspect of blogging and something I’m still working on regularly. Plus I do enjoy it and would like my followers to enjoy their experience as well!

That’s it for this month! Are you setting goals for April? How did your goals for March go? I would love to hear your thoughts, so please leave a comment below!

February in Review, March Goals

Ever have one of those months where nothing goes as planned? That was definitely February for me. It can be really rough to go through the month knowing you’re not making the progress you hoped you would.

I did get a lot done though, just not the things that I had planned on. I made a lot of progress on my jewelry and a few new DIY projects. I had a wonderful last couple weeks and I’m really looking forward to seeing how March goes!

February Goals

  • Keep working at that morning routine – Up no later than 6:30 all days except Saturday (This will start once my back is feeling better…my neck hurts too much to work out for at least a few hours after waking up. Hopefully next week.)

This did not happen. But it was not for lack of trying. As I said at the beginning of last month and in my fitness update, my back was hurting. Then I got sick. Then my back (but a different part!) was hurting again. Then I got sick again, but worse. Yeah…the first 1/2 of February was not very nice to me. But now I’m doing better and I am getting up on time, so yay!!

  • Keep active 6 days a week – Until my back heals up, LISS. After that, it’s back to Kayla Itsines’ BBG for round 2!

Yeah…for the same reasons as above, it was pretty much LISS for most of the month. But I am now starting Week 2 of my second round of BBG and so happy for it! (Very, very sore…but happy!) I didn’t make it 6 days a week when I was sick, but I did push myself to be as active as possible.

  • Spend at least 30 minutes a day working on either the blog or my art.

Yes! I actually manage to do this almost entirely. I’m sure I missed a day or two, but for the most part I have actually done very well on this one!

Favorite Pictures from February

March Goals

  1. Keep working towards establishing that morning routine! – I’ve done okay this last week, but I really need to make it through at least a whole month. I know I feel better when I get up early, get my workout in (with time to warm up and stretch) and get ready at an easy pace. I just need to stay focused on those positives and make sure I get to bed at a decent time!
  2. Add yoga into routine at least 3 days a week – During workouts and yoga is about the only time right now that my mind quiets down. I think this will help my productivity and overall mental state
  3. Add guided meditation to routine at least 3 days a week – This goes along with my second goal and I think will achieve the same ends. Plus it’s just a good practice anyways.

That’s it for this month! Do you set goals for yourself each month? How do you deal if the month doesn’t go as planned? I would love to hear your thoughts, so please leave a comment below!

January in Review, February Goals

January Goals

  1. Start establishing a morning routine – Ummm….50/50? I kept making progress with this and then my back injury acting up again plus getting sick, setting me back again
  2. Start at least one art project – Does my jewelry count? I did not start on mosaic like I had hoped to, but I got quite a few pieces of jewelry made! I’m also starting to feel a little more comfortable with my wire wrapping, though I still have a LONG way to go in that department!
  3. Active rest days – 50/50 success. During the time periods I was working out I did manage active rest days, but when I was sick and injured every day kinda became a rest day (outside of physical therapy exercises)
  4. Less TV time, especially while writing! – Again, 50/50 success. I did okay with this at the beginning of the month. Not so much the second half of the month.

January Favorites

You guys have to be getting sick of seeing the same photos over an over…can you tell I was a little focused on my jewelry this month?! I promise that I will be working on my photography in more areas in February, so it will not be the same jewelry again. Also, I am working on some new pieces, so it will be new jewelry too! 🙂

I really am excited to be able to share these with you though. I’ve been dreaming of being able to make new pieces for months and now I finally can! I would love to hear your thoughts on the jewelry I’ve shared so far. Are there any styles or pieces that you really like or dislike?

February Goals

  1. Keep working at that morning routine – Up no later than 6:30 all days except Saturday (This will start once my back is feeling better…my neck hurts too much to work out for at least a few hours after waking up. Hopefully next week.)
  2. Keep active 6 days a week – Until my back heals up, LISS. After that, it’s back to Kayla Itsines’ BBG for round 2!
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes a day working on either the blog or my art.

December In Review, January Goals

So if you saw Tuesday’s post, you may be wondering why I’m posting again about goals. Well, while I talked about my goals for the year yesterday, I still want to make sure I’m keeping myself accountable for my monthly goals.

December Goals:

  1. Continue with BBG, 6 days a week – I did continue with BBG..I did not manage 6 days a week. I got sick partway through the month with a nasty cold, took a week off to recover and have been fighting my way back into a routine ever since. I am going to get back into it though, no matter what! Now that the holidays are over and my schedule should mostly be back to normal, this should be easier to accomplish.
  2. Try again to incorporate active rest days – About 50% successful. I did really enjoy the days where I managed this! But between the week I was sick and our Christmas celebrations, I missed adding yoga in to a few rest days.
  3. Finish 3 DIY projects – I only finished 2, but I’m really happy with how they turned out!
  4. Less TV time, especially while writing! – I did pretty good at this for the most part! I still wrote some while watching TV, but the majority were written at my desk while listening to instrumental music. This is definitely a habit I’m going to keep up!

December Fav Photos (Other than the DIY projects above, which are some of my favs too!)

January Goals

  1. Start establishing a morning routine – Wake up 30 minutes earlier. I know I’ve tried to get up earlier in past months, but I think I was trying to push to get up so much earlier too quickly. I’m instead going to try to wake up 30 minutes earlier each day this month, making sure to use the time productively.
  2. Start at least one art project – By this I’m not referring to the DIY projects I do, but instead one of the art pieces I’ve been wanting to start on.
  3. Active rest days – I’m going to keep working on this one. Hopefully with a much calmer month now that the holidays are past, I can finally manage to add this in to my routine!

That’s it! Are you planning on setting goals for this month, or are you working on your goals for 2016 instead? Or are you doing both, like I am? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

August Favs, September Goals

Hey everyone! I’m pretty excited for this post 🙂 While I didn’t take as many pictures as I would have liked, I did get some ones that I was really happy with.

My goals for August went pretty well too! I didn’t do great on the regular meditation practice, but that was more the secondary goal for me. The big goal for me was sticking to Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide and I did!

I will be posting a full review of the first month of the guide and how it went for me next week. I am actually a week behind, after a bit of a fall during my last LISS workout of week 2. It actually ended with a short trip to the ER and a head suture. I am the epitome of grace and not at all clumsy. I’m fine now, but I did take it a bit easy during my week 3 workouts. So I ended up redoing week 3 the following week and am just starting week 4.

Overall, I am viewing August as a success! While I didn’t do as well as I would have liked at adding mediation into my life on a regular basis, I am very proud of myself for keeping at the workout program. Especially after the head wound could have provided a very easy excuse. I can’t wait to see what September brings!

And now for some fun August pictures! You will actually be seeing more of these this coming month in a few posts, so enjoy the sneak peak!

September Goals

  1. Continuing the Bikini Body Guide. I am loving my workouts and how they make me feel. My biggest goal in relation to this is to do the workouts after I wake up before work, instead of after work. I have found that my day goes better and I sleep better with I do my workouts then.
  2. Take at least one photo every day. I really want to improve my photography skills and would love to work on it this month.

That’s it for me! Hope you enjoyed my August review and all the fun photos! Hopefully this next month will produce some even better ones!

What goals are you working on this month? Continuing some old ones or are they brand new?

July In Review and August Goals

Due to a visit from my parents and a sewing machine that just wouldn’t cooperate, this post is coming out a day later than I planned on.

July went pretty well overall as far as life goes, but my goals for July went decidedly less well. The month started off well enough, but after a very minor shoulder injury I fell off track on pretty much everything for a couple weeks. While I did get back on track with my workouts, I would have to say I failed at all of my other goals for this month. This failure really has had me examining how I set goals, what caused me so much difficulty and what I can do differently from here on out to help myself succeed.Read More

June Favorites and July Goals

Hey everyone! Welcome to the first installment of ‘Favorites and Goals’! A few of the reasons I started this blog were to keep myself motivated and document life’s moments. In this new series, I’m going to post some of my favorite pictures from the previous month and lay out a few goals for the new month. In future posts for this series I will also add in how I did on the previous month’s goals. 🙂
