Dealing with Setbacks: A Fitness Update

Hey everyone! This is not the fitness update I was planning on giving you this week. I was looking forward to telling you all how my first month of Kayla Itsines’ Bikini Body Guide went, post some progress pics and overall be excited and positive! Well, that’s not going to be exactly how this post is going to go.

Sometimes things don’t go the way you plan, no matter what you do. This has been the case for the last few weeks for me. First, as you may remember, I took a pretty nasty fall a few weeks ago, resulting in a trip to the ER, a head suture, some serious soreness and some healing time.

So I took it easy for Week 3 workouts and then repeated Week 3 the following week. No worries and I was feeling pretty positive.

Fast forward a few days, to last Wednesday. I woke up feeling pretty stiff and sore, a feeling which rapidly worsened as the day went on. By Thursday morning, the right side of my back was mostly locked up, I couldn’t really move my neck and was in pain no matter what position I tried.

Before I continue, I need to add in that this is not the first time this has happened. So while very uncomfortable, pretty painful and overall a hassle, I was not and am not freaking out too much.

I went to the doctor, who prescribed me some medications to help and physical therapy. The first I expected, the second was VERY unexpected. However, my doctor believes that since this is a reacurring problem, I most likely need a least some physical therapy to help keep in from continuing to happen. I have my initial physical therapy appointment tomorrow and will find out more then. I am doing much better now, with some lingering stiffness. But overall much better.

So my BBG journey is on hold, probably for a least a week or two. I am hoping it won’t be longer than that. I can’t wait to get back to it! I have decided though, with the fall and now this, that I am going to restart from Week 1 once I am cleared by the doctors to start again.

That’s it for this update! I know, not the happiest one in the world, but I’m still thinking positively and am excited to get back to my workouts soon!

How have you dealt with setbacks? Any tips for getting back into your routine after something like this throws it off? I would love to hear from you!

Sunday Meal Prep

Hey everyone and welcome back for this week’s meal prep! This week was pretty quick with a lot of really tasty dishes, so let’s get to it!

DSCN0813_picmonkeyed

As always, our salads are pretty much a requirement. I’m still in love with the Buffalo Shredded Chicken, so I don’t think our salads will be changing up anytime soon, though if you have any other great protein sources for Jar Salads I would love to give them a try!

I made enough breakfast burritos to last us a little over two weeks! We have just recently changed up the ingredients a little and I love the difference of adding in sautéed onion and bell peppers.

As always, the Sweet Potato Banana Bites are a favorite snack. I would love to hear your ideas for some new snacks to add in to the rotation!

Root Veggie Bake with Andouille Sausage and Italian Sausage Kale Ziti are my two repeat dishes this week. As for the new dish of the week, this Jalapeno Popper Chicken came together great and smelled delicious!

That’s it for this week! What are you cooking this week? I would love some new ideas as I’ve been in a little bit of a rut and would love to add some new food to our regular rotation of dishes.

August Favs, September Goals

Hey everyone! I’m pretty excited for this post 🙂 While I didn’t take as many pictures as I would have liked, I did get some ones that I was really happy with.

My goals for August went pretty well too! I didn’t do great on the regular meditation practice, but that was more the secondary goal for me. The big goal for me was sticking to Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide and I did!

I will be posting a full review of the first month of the guide and how it went for me next week. I am actually a week behind, after a bit of a fall during my last LISS workout of week 2. It actually ended with a short trip to the ER and a head suture. I am the epitome of grace and not at all clumsy. I’m fine now, but I did take it a bit easy during my week 3 workouts. So I ended up redoing week 3 the following week and am just starting week 4.

Overall, I am viewing August as a success! While I didn’t do as well as I would have liked at adding mediation into my life on a regular basis, I am very proud of myself for keeping at the workout program. Especially after the head wound could have provided a very easy excuse. I can’t wait to see what September brings!

And now for some fun August pictures! You will actually be seeing more of these this coming month in a few posts, so enjoy the sneak peak!

Go ISU! I love that I caught this picture at the local farmer’s market! Yes, that is Cy holding up the produce stand with a cucumber.

And speaking of adorable, this is the look I see frequently from the kitchen. She is just too cute (and so good at looking sad and dejected)!

September Goals

  1. Continuing the Bikini Body Guide. I am loving my workouts and how they make me feel. My biggest goal in relation to this is to do the workouts after I wake up before work, instead of after work. I have found that my day goes better and I sleep better with I do my workouts then.
  2. Take at least one photo every day. I really want to improve my photography skills and would love to work on it this month.

That’s it for me! Hope you enjoyed my August review and all the fun photos! Hopefully this next month will produce some even better ones!

What goals are you working on this month? Continuing some old ones or are they brand new?

Sunday Meal Prep

Hey everyone! Welcome to another meal prep Sunday! I’m sorry for my mostly-absence for the past two weeks. My injury is mostly better, but it really did throw my schedule and plans completely off. Come September, I will be back on top of things and better than ever!

With that out of the way, onward to this week’s meal prep 🙂

DSCN0785_picmonkeyed

Not a very big prep this week. All of the regulars are there: Peanut Butter Banana Oat Muffins, Sweet Potato Banana Bites, Breakfast Burritos and Buffalo Shredded Chicken Salads.

For our main courses, we went pretty basic and oddly, all rice based this week. That wasn’t really intentional, but we did enjoy it! Two of the dishes were no recipe, thrown together dishes: Chicken Stir-fry and Cabbage Veggie Saute If you want the recipe, let me know and I will try to recreate it. They were delicious! We also tried a new recipe this week: Saucy Pork Chop Skillet. We like pork chops, but I can never seem to find new ways to prepare them. This one seems like a winner!

That’s it for this week! What are you cooking in your kitchen?

Sunday Meal Prep

Hey everyone! Welcome back to this week’s meal prep!

First off I want to apologize for my absence this past week. Last Saturday night I took a bit of a fall during my workout and ended up spending a few hours in the Emergency Room. I wasn’t too badly injured, but I didn’t really feel up to doing much cooking on Sunday. It’s times like this that I am very thankful for having some freezer meals built up! Though we did have a couple pizzas over the week too 🙂

But now, with my suture removed and feeling much better overall, I am back at it! So without further ado, on to this week’s meal prep!

DSCN0738_picmonkeyed

Not a huge meal prep this week.

Baking: Sweet potato banana bites, peanut butter banana oat muffins and cinnamon bread. Nothing surprising here, but still some of my favorites!

Main dishes: Salads, cut veggies for Tuscan White Bean Soup, and Italian Meatloaf. The meatloaf is a new recipe and delicious! Though probably not the most healthy version and we probably won’t make it very often.

I also made up a green bean side, some hard boiled eggs for snacking, cut up some red onions for sandwiches, and froze the remaining shredded buffalo chicken from the salads.

All in all, not a bad meal prep! I hope your week went better than mine and I’m happy to be back! What are you cooking this week?

Fitness Update

As I stated in my July Review, I kinda fell off track with my workouts for a couple of weeks. So I didn’t make much progress last month 😦 But I didn’t really lose any progress either. Over my fitness journey, I have learned to accept that some weeks don’t go as planned.

Sunday Meal Prep

Hey everyone! Welcome to another installment of my weekly meal prep. I am very excited to say that unlike last week, this week was much better and more fun for me! I don’t know what was going on with me last week, but I’m glad it’s over!

This week was pretty fun for me, including one of my favorite stews 🙂 I know that it’s a bit warm out for a heavier stew, but I saw it when I was deciding on the menu for this week and it just sounded too tasty to pass up. Check out the recipe at the bottom of the post! Continue reading “Sunday Meal Prep”

July In Review and August Goals

Due to a visit from my parents and a sewing machine that just wouldn’t cooperate, this post is coming out a day later than I planned on.

July went pretty well overall as far as life goes, but my goals for July went decidedly less well. The month started off well enough, but after a very minor shoulder injury I fell off track on pretty much everything for a couple weeks. While I did get back on track with my workouts, I would have to say I failed at all of my other goals for this month. This failure really has had me examining how I set goals, what caused me so much difficulty and what I can do differently from here on out to help myself succeed. Ledges State Park: Discovering Local Treasures and Being a Tourist in Your Own Town

Have you ever acted like a tourist in your own community? Or at least not like a local? Sometimes there are some amazing places right in your own backyard! Places that you may have overlooked or even forgotten about, because they have always been there.

For many years, this was how Ledges State Park was for me. I knew it was there, and even had been out there a couple times. But for the most part, I forgot about it. I had lived less than 10 miles away for over 6 years before I started going there regularly!
